Our Story
Teaching generations since 1963
San-Marie Stage School was established in 1963 and has been teaching children and adults across Essex for more than 60 years.
Over the years, San-Marie classes were held in Brentwood, Ingatestone, Doddinghurst, Kelvedon Hatch, Horndon-on-the-Hill, Basildon and Billericay. In 2004, we took an exciting step forward, bringing our classes together under one roof at our own purpose-built studios in Billericay.
Today, San-Marie remains proudly family-run, with the same values that have been at the heart of the school for generations.

MORE THAN JUST DANCE
We believe dance should give every student the opportunity to learn, perform, build confidence and feel part of something special.
Some of our students dream of a professional career and go on to gain places at prestigious dance and theatre colleges. Others simply dance because they love it — and we believe their experience should be every bit as important.
Our students are encouraged to achieve their own personal best, whether that means taking an ISTD examination, performing on stage for the first time, joining our Display Team, competing, or simply enjoying their weekly class with friends.

EVERYONE DESERVES THEIR MOMENT ON STAGE
Performance has always been a huge part of San-Marie.
Our annual theatre production gives our students the opportunity to perform in a professional theatre, with costumes included as part of their class fees. We take care of the costumes and organisation so that our performers can concentrate on what matters — enjoying their moment on stage.
Our San-Marie Display Team provides even more performance opportunities and has represented the school in London and overseas, including performances at Disneyland Paris, in Spain and aboard MSC cruise ships.
A SCHOOL TO GROW UP WITH
Many of our students first walk through our doors as very young children and remain with us into their teenage and adult years. Some even return to dance with us as adults — and we now teach children whose parents once danced at San-Marie themselves.
That sense of belonging is incredibly important to us.
We offer classes from 18 months through to adults, allowing students to grow, progress and discover different styles of dance without having to leave the school they know and love.
JOIN THE SAN-MARIE FAMILY
We want choosing a dance school to feel easy, which is why new students can experience San-Marie with our Three4Free offer — three complimentary weeks to try suitable classes, meet our teachers and discover what they enjoy.
Whether a student dreams of a future on the stage or simply wants to dance, make friends and have fun, there is a place for them at San-Marie.
Come and discover a dance school that has been teaching, performing and making memories for generations.
